What have you been working on? Gas yourself!
At the moment, there isn't much I can publicly share. But I've been spending the last year just learning and absorbing. I'm focused on creating more space for those often left or overlooked in Hollywood to find opportunities. I hope that not only do I get the chance to help elevate and bring to life incredible stories with my work, but I'm able to provide someone new or different with access to more experience.
How does your culture inform your creative work?
I show up as a Black woman who genuinely cares about her people in every space I'm in. I make that known, and I don't hide from it. My previous work was centered around celebrating Black culture, and now that that's no longer my role, I try to make sure I don't let the essence of that escape from me. I know so many versions of our humanity have yet to be told or shown, and I'm working hard to get those stories told.
What is your greatest struggle/challenge these days?
Coming from working in social media, I'm used to instant gratification and feedback. The internet will tell you how they feel, no questions asked. It's been hard to create without having anything to share or post. It's also been hard to develop from a viewpoint that's bigger than "what's the internet going to say." I'm trying to work more on my patience and recognizing that my work is valuable and needed even when no one sees it.
What does community mean for you as a creative?
Community is everything. I'm so thankful for the community I've created of genuine people who love and support each other. We all want each other to win and thrive. I'm a super reflective person, and it's been so rewarding to see my people get to where they are now, myself included, because I know where we've been. And it's been a JOURNEY!
What inspires you in your creative process?
As someone who works in entertainment, I have to say fan joy is what inspires me the most. I love the way a piece of art can move people. Be it music, a painting, or a television show. I geek out on watching other people geek out over who and what they love. And as a creator, my biggest goal is to help create something that people call their "fave."
