"I realize I don't know very much. None of us knows very much. But we can all learn more. Then we can teach one another. We can stop denying reality or hoping it will go away by magic." Octavia E Butler

How does culture inform your creative work?

Culture is consistently a throughline in my work because it's the anchor that reminds me who I am and the canon by which I create. Culture is my sound boarding board; it's that deep slap-the-table fall-out-the-chair kind of laughter; it's my folklore; it's my reminder that nuance is our superpower.

What has community meant for you as a creative?

As a creative, community has been a call to action rooted in urgency. It's my constant reminder that we always have more work to do, and our hand in moving the needle should have a jet pack strapped to it.

Why is collaboration such an important part of the creative process?

Collaboration is a pure part of the creative process because it reminds us that we're not alone, and the power of our collective voice to amplify our work is so necessary. Through collaboration, we get the opportunity to explore our childlike wanderlust and the possibilities of what could be. Collaborations are a symbol of hope.
