B. Hawk Snipes
ARTIST
What have you been working on? Gas yourself!
I’ve been working mostly on my mental health & loving on me, myself & I. But creatively I’ve been back in the music studio working on two featured tracks that I’m really excited about. Music artists Reuben Reuel & Jewel The Gem are both friends of mine and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the magic we’ve created. Both tracks will be released early 2023!
How does your culture inform your creative work?
My culture informs my creative work because I AM THE CULTURE. A culture influenced by the intersectionality of Blackness, Queerness & Trans identities before me.
What is your greatest struggle/challenge these days?
Personally my biggest struggle is working on creating time for myself. Seasonal depression hits really heavy during the fall/winter season and I have to take more time out to focus on centering myself mentally, physically & spiritually. I took a month off my social media pages which was challenging as a entrepreneur, social media influencer & entertainer. But now I’m back and I’m really proud of myself for putting myself first.
What does community mean for you as a creative?
My community has inspired me to dream beyond my wildest dreams and saved my life. When I see Angelica Ross perform on Broadway, Marquise Vilson acting on TV or Qween Jean marching for social justice in the streets..I feel a sense of urgency & strength to push forward.
What inspires you in your creative process?
Learning about different black & brown cultures around the world inspires my creative process. My true mission in life is to produce and be apart of creative projects within the arts to diversify, entertain and inspire & pour back into the world.
Is there anything happening in your community that you'd like to shed some light on?
I’m also a board member for the BTFA (Black Trans Femme in the Arts) Collective & we are currently working on our first Fundraising Gala in January. We recently became a independent 501(c) 3 organization! Now as a independent non-profit, 100% of all donations made to BTFA will go directly to our work supporting Black trans femme artists. In celebration of this milestone, we are raising $100,000 for general operating support to help us with this transition and ensure that our services continue running smoothly. Please help us reach our goal & continue to support black trans femmes all around the world. @btfacollective www.BTFACollective.com
