“I am committed to telling stories that depict the
Black experience.”

What have you been working on? Gas yourself!
I just celebrated the 2 year anniversary of my photobook Black Boy Fly, with a limited edition book signing and art installation in collaboration Black Fashion Fair. I'm also wrapping up my first short film entitled What Flying Feels Like co-directed by Curtis Taylor Jr. I'm also have some great projects in the works that I can discuss right now. It's all a blessing! I love when I get to do work that I love.

How does your culture inform your creative work?
My culture is the foundation of my work. As artist, I am committed to telling stories that depict the black experience. There's so much to explore within our culture.

What is your greatest struggle/challenge these days?
My greatest struggle is disconnecting from work. It's the largest part of life. I don't do a good job with taking vacations or self care excursions. It's an opportunity for me for sure.

What does community mean for you as a creative?
Community is tribe of people who act as genuine support system. As a creative, support from the community is essential. There's power and influence in numbers; therefore, we should use this power towards the advancement of fellow creatives.

What inspires you in your creative process?
Beautiful sounds, smells and visuals. I enjoy being comfortable while I create, so I seek to curate a relaxing environment that's conducive for a creative vibe.

Is there anything happening in your community that you'd like to shed some light on?
I really love the renaissance of black creative groups such as The CCNY, Blacktag, and Black Fashion Fair. Seeing young black creatives do amazing work in these spaces is necessitated. Each serves a blueprint for the future generation and helps provide opportunity for the current generation.
